Pirate Master 6/28

While I still don't think the show is living up to its potential, things were somewhat more interesting tonight. A battle of "I don't like this person so let's vote them off" came up, with the backstabber not liking the flirt and vice versa. But for me, the backstabber tried to deny he was a backstabber, while the flirt has been upfront (with the camera at least) about flirting with the guys to get herself farther. I'll go with the person with a plan anyday. Even better, she snuck onto the roof of the galley and was eavesdropping on the guy while he was plotting against her, which made me love her even more. In the end, she won, which I thought was super sweet, and the guy was "cut adrift".

And "Let's see what you've done" is still the best tag line ever.

SYTYCD is also turning out to be one of my favorite shows. They are all so good that the competition for me is practically a distraction, and once again I think they let the wrong people go tonight, especially with the boys. But dang, the dancing is so hot, and the choreography is exciting and inventive. The girls are ridiculously sexy, and this is coming from the gay guy, I mean, c'mon. Dance is way underrated in pop culture, I think this show is, in general, more exciting than the average American Idol. Don't get me wrong, I think the singing is awesome entertainment as well, but when these kids throw themselves through the air it is just so, to borrow a new phrase, buck. Also, these kids have WAY more style than the Idols do, and that in itself is enjoyable. If I didn't work in a hospital I would totally go out and get a mohawk, I love that that is trendy now. (I've seen two here on the street in the last week, which is totally rad.)

Oh, also, last night at the CVS was this adorable old lady, with her hair pulled into a tight tight bun on the top of her head, and then for a hat she was wearing a doily, pink with white lace. She was about four feet tall so I had a good view behind her in line, and for some reason it just warmed my heart imagining her getting ready to leave the house and wanting to look good for her run to the CVS to get some bottled water and lotion, adjusting her doily in the mirror by the front door. I like the ladies to wear hats. Even if it is a, uh, non-traditional hat.

  1. There's still not enough plotting & conniving to suit my expectation for a pirate show. People haven't seemed to quite figure out they should make some alliances and then (at least attempt to) stick with them. But there are hints of that for next week. And they way they dress is still way fun. I want to wear pirate girl eye makeup in my everyday life. It might improve my mood as I continue to wait to hear if I passed the evil NCLEX.

It's good to know I can pack my stylin' veil and hat (black and purple of course, not pink and white) when I come to visit you in DC and you won't mock me....

  2. I love that you love people and tend to see the best in them. I strive to be more like you. My first inclination would be to look at that woman and think, "What the hell were you think'in woman?!?!" It's hard to suppress the Evil Marie sometimes :) I guess you are just a better person than I....

I always used to think the same thing about people I'd see at the beach in CA. They'd be all dressed in heels and fancy dresses walking along the water. Or, the men in dress pants all rolled frolicking in the surf. I'd look around and think, "Is there a church around here that I'm missing? Lady Of The Seahorse?"

    People are weird.

  3. personally, I hate that you see the best in other people. I mean, Hello? are you trying to make me look bad? Shesh.

  4. Radha - I always reserve the right to mock you for your hat, but I will still love you for wearing it.

Evil Marie - Don't misunderstand. I'm not a saint or whatever, I just love crazy people because they entertain me. Good style gives me ideas, but bad style gives me a chuckle, and I'm not sure which I really prefer. I'd rather see someone with full body tats and blue hair with a doily on their heads then some boring dude in khakis and a tie. (Unless of course the tie was flourescent or something.) We saw a lady in a wheelchair wearing a white dress with orange clouds all over, plus she had a matching hat. She looked kind of like a melted creamsickle, and it was totally fierce. People always get points from me for the effort, whether is succeeds of fails spectacularly.

And Colin, you have a long, red ponytail. I could never make you look bad.

  5. Robb - I will not forget that you want me to have a long grey ponytail. This dream will never be fulfilled because 1) my hair won't grow that long, 2) I will never intentionally go grey (heh), 3) Meryl Streep just hasn't pulled it off yet (points for trying, though). I hope this will not discourage you from letting me write in your blog, though.

  6. ooohhh...ouch! Are you saying I already look bad enough, that you don't have to try? Thanks rob, just what I wanted to hear on my B'Day. *Sniff*

  7. Mom, the world will be a better place when you are a grandma with a long grey ponytail.

Colin, it is your birthday so you can get away with it, but stop reading insults into my compliments.
